Overview of the workplace safety and insurance system
Workplace safety and insurance is a no-fault insurance system for work-related injuries and diseases. It is governed by the WSIA, and is managed by the WSIB.
New WSIB Rate Framework
The WSIB will be implementing its new rate framework on January 1, 2020. This will completely change how employers are classified, and how employer WSIB premium rates will be determined. For the new system, Schedule 1 employers will be transferred from the current Standard Industrial Classification (SIC) system to the North American Industry Classification Structure (NAICS) system. The current MAP, NEER and CAD 7 experience rating programs will also be replaced by risk adjusted premium rates. Employers who are not currently subject to experience rating will be included in the new rate framework.
You can contact the OEA if you have any questions.
