Director's Update

On April 1st, the OEA was ready to take on its new mandate to represent employers who have been accused of a health and safety reprisal under the Occupational Health and Safety Act. This free service is limited to companies that employ fewer than 50 workers, and takes place before the Ontario Labour Relations Board (OLRB). If you require this new service, or just need information or advice about workplace reprisals, please contact us as soon as possible as the timelines for filing necessary documents at the OLRB are very short.

We are also actively providing information to construction employers on the coming impacts of mandatory WSIB coverage in the construction industry. Significant changes to registration and coverage for executive officers and independent operators in construction will come into effect on January 1, 2013. We have provided two successful webinars about Bill 119 to date and will be adding additional sessions in the coming months. Please check our website periodically for updated information. Registration is free.

We also hear that changes will be coming to the WSIB appeal system later this year. The OEA will stay on top of this, and provide more information to employers as it becomes available.
